Law Enforcement and Society: Lessons of the Holocaust

The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission is now offering a new course to satisfy the training requirements in WAC 139-11-020 (2)(n) Learning to build more positive relationships with specific communities within areas officers serve by understanding how biases, stereotypes, and a lack of understanding about varying cultural norms negatively impacts police interactions with the public.

 

The new course is called “Law Enforcement and Society: Lessons of the Holocaust.” The Holocaust for Humanity Center engages with law enforcement to learn about the role of police in Nazi Germany and to reflect on their role in a democratic society today. Officers will learn to build more positive relationships with specific communities within areas they serve by understanding how biases, stereotypes, and a lack of understanding about varying cultural norms negatively impacts police interactions with the public.

 

This course is 2.5 hours long and the first session will be offered January 20, 2022. All course sessions will run from 1500-1730 hrs. Registration for available sessions is currently open. You may register for the course through your training manager on Acadis. The maximum class size is 20 students. Registration will close five (5) days before the class start date.
